Colombian Elections 2010
The following verbal public manifestations by Mockus during the first days of May may have led to a change of the electorate from the ‘greens’ to Santos:
- Saying that he would extradite Uribe and then taking it back.
- Admitting that he admires Hugo Chávez, taking it back, and then changing ‘admiration’ for ‘respect.’
- Declaring himself as an atheist and then making a confusing explanation of life after death; the priests forgave him, insinuating that ‘decent atheists go to heaven too.’
- Telling that he would ask firms to invest and innovate at a slower pace, with the objective of creating more jobs, which infuriated economists.
- Saying that he would delay investments in mining to avoid the ‘Dutch disease.’
- Not as publicized, Salomón Kalmanowitz, the eventual Finance Minister, said that pensions should be managed by the public sector (while voluntary contributions could still be made to private pension funds), and that they would revise the subsidies for the poor.

No joke he lost some points during the first week of May. Let us see what the result is during the second round.
